Sylvia's family immigrated to Canada in the 1970s. Her parents, conscientious and disciplined, quickly established themselves. From them, Sylvia learned love of family and the value of hard work, planning for the future, and the importance of building strong relationships. When Sylvia’s sister was nine years old, she was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, a debilitating physical condition that confined her to a wheelchair. As a family, they came together and persevered, meeting each challenge with creativity, adaptability, and dogged determination.
These early life experiences remained with Sylvia through her school years and her career, where she held a variety of management positions with corporations such as Wardair Canada and MDS Inc. Sylvia thrived in the business world, and developed excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Respected by colleagues and customers alike, Sylvia forged strong relationships, some of which continue to be an important part of her life.
Sylvia grew up in Mississauga, and has raised her own family there. She is a believer in giving back to her community. Through Bruno's Bash – a charity near and dear to her heart – Sylvia was instrumental in raising over $100,000 for the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga. And for the last seven years, Sylvia has worked alongside her sister to fundraise for Muscular Dystrophy Canada and its annual Peel Region Walk & Silent Auction.
